What to see in Orvieto
DUOMO
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian Gothic architecture. It took three centuries to create, from the 12th to the 16th century, and the commitment of at least twenty artists. The sumptuousness of its façade is reflected in the splendour of the interiors: the chapels of the Corporale and San Brizio preserve several masterpieces of Italian Renaissance paintings. PIAZZA DEL POPOLO
If you want to see the Piazza in all its colourful glory, don’t miss it on Thursday and Saturday morning; the biweekly market days. MANCINELLI THEATRE
The elegant façade of the theatre overlooks Corso Cavour, in the historic centre. The style is neoclassical - its construction dates back to the late 19th century. TEMPLE OF THE BELVEDERE
It is an ancient Etruscan temple, dating back to the 5th century BC. You can find it in the eastern part of the city, near the Pozzo di San Patrizio, in the Piazza Cahen area. Discovered by chance in the 19th century, the only remaining parts of the building are the base, the entrance staircase and some perimeter blocks. POZZO DI SAN PATRIZIO – ST PATRICK’S WELL
The tourist guides point it out as the second marvel of Orvieto, after the Duomo. The well descends 54 meters into the tufa - it was excavated in the sixteenth century to supply the city with water. The 248 steps of the double series of spiral stairs, made by Giuliano da Sangallo, will take you to the bottom of the cavity. ROCCA ALBORNOZ
Founded in the mid-14th century, this fortress is an impressive building wanted by Cardinal Egidio Albornoz to defend Orvieto. Near its walls, you can let your gaze wander over the panorama of the eastern hills. The Rocca's gardens are favourites for those seeking relaxation and recreation in the open air.If you want to walk, we recommend the route that, from the nearby Porta Soliana, takes you down to the valley along the path of the Piagge - you can go back to the city with the funicular.

ANELLO DELLA RUPE
This itinerary winds for 5 km around the tufa cliff on which stands Orvieto, in the Parco Archeologico Ambientale Orvietano. From Piazza Cahen, near the Rocca Albornoz, enjoy the many views that follow one another around the city, suspended a few meters higher. What to see outside of Orvieto
LAKE CORBARA
It’s an artificial water mirror less than half an hour's drive from Orvieto. To enjoy its beauty, follow the panoramic road towards Todi. Lake Corbara is an excellent idea for a short escape from the city, to practice sports - a choice between canyoning, sport fishing, caving, canoeing and rowing - or for a food and wine tour among some of the most important wineries in Umbria, gathered in the Consortium for the protection of Lake Corbara DOC.18 km from Orvieto
CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
Like Orvieto, it’s set on a tufa rock, in a silent valley marked by ravines and clay hills. Civita is also known as the city that dies, because it is condemned to a slow ruin. The only access to the village is the Porta di Santa Maria, to be reached on foot after passing a bridge suspended in the air. Tourists from all over the world visit Civita to get lost in its narrow streets and breathe the atmosphere of an authentic medieval village.20 km from Orvieto
TODI
In Todi you can breathe the slow philosophy: it is famous, not by chance, for being one of the most liveable cities in the world. Its centrepiece is the medieval Piazza del Popolo, crowned by some of the most important historical buildings: the Annunziata Cathedral, the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo del Popolo and the Palazzo del Capitano. The highest point of Todi is the site where the Rocca stood, a 14th-century building of which today only a circular tower remains and little else - next door, you can enjoy the greenery of a large public park.38 km from Orvieto
CITTÀ DELLA PIEVE
It’s a medieval town suspended on a hill between the Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno. Among its churches and palaces, a path dedicated to Renaissance art is unravelled - Città della Pieve was the birthplace of Perugino, Raphael's master.
